San Francisco was given a special treat at the Avalon Ballroom on
April 11th when Buju Banton celebrated the release of his brand new CD
release, Friends for Life on VP Records. Buju rocked the house when he performed
his new songs including "Mama Africa", "Mr. Nine" and the upbeat Ska
song that got everybody dancing, "Feeling Groovy." Buju also shocked out on when
he performed earlier hits from his groundbreaking CD release, Til Shiloh which has
been re-mixed and is now also enjoying its re-release in 2003. Also performing was
Bay Area singer, Sister I Live and the 47th Street Band.
The music continued in San Francisco with an exquisite vocal
performance by Yami Bolo at the Last Day Saloon on April 25th.
Yami mesmerized the crowd when he performed "Put Down The Weapons" and other
hits all backed by the dynamic Yellow Wall Dub Quartet with Fazel Pendergast
on rhythm guitar, Stevie Love on bass, Steve Hoffman on Keyboards and Sand
Drum on drums. Arriving prior to Yami Bolos performance for a meet and greet
hosted by Bay Area journalist Shelah Moody many of us were able to sit back and relax
during sound check and even given a private concert with Yami on acoustical guitar. It was
particularly nice to see Yami in such an intimate setting that offered him a solo platform
to display his incredible vocal talent. Opening the show for Yami Bolo was Bay Area group,
Reggae Angles. For those of you who missed Yami Bolos performance,
youre in luck! Yami Bolo is scheduled to perform this year at the 10th Annual Sierra Nevada
World Music Festival on June 20, 21 & 22 in Angles Camp, California. Yami will
be in good company as an incredible lineup is schedule that includes a parcel of Roots and
Culture artist including Capelton, U Roy, Prince Buster, Barrington Levy, Twinkle
Brothers, Johnny Clark, Mikey Dread, Pablo Moses and much, much more! |
